We are constantly evaluating existing features in Windows 10 in an effort to improve the user experience for customers. When asked why the change was made, a Microsoft spokesperson offered the following statement:
When new files do get created and new disks get formatted, apparently, those Windows 10 users will be using the older NTFS approach instead of ReFS. However, it will be possible to read and modify existing files that were originally created with ReFS. Those users also won't be able to format disks using the ReFS option. This change suggests that Windows 10 Pro and Windows 10 Home editions won't be able to create new files using ReFS when their systems update to the Windows 10 fall creators update. 'All other editions will have Read and Write ability.' ' creation ability will be removed from all other editions ,' the terse addendum noted.
